The Road to Enlightenment

Do not pursue the past
Do not lose yourself in the future
The past no longer is
The future has not yet come
Looking deeply at life as it is
In the very here and now, the practitioner dwells in stability and freedom
We must be diligent today
To wait until tomorrow is too late
Death comes unexpectedly
How can we bargain with it?
The sage calls a person who knows how to dwell in mindfulness night and day,
'one who knows the better way to live alone.'

Personal Skills Presentation

For this presentation I have been asked to discuss my work in developing my personal knowledge and skills related to specific aspects of my teaching and training. The aim is to identify relevant topics to work on, explain how they relate to the improvement of my teaching, discuss the actual work that I did and reflect on its actual impact on my teaching.

My choice of knowledge and skills to work on are Stress Management and Counselling.

Now I have a clear idea of the two areas I will be working on, next I have draw up a learning contract in consultation with my module tutor.

The learning contract should identify:

The two areas to be worked on

My initial expectations of what I want to achieve

How I will undertake my development in the two areas (e.g. by attending a formal course; by attending staff development activities; by working with my mentor; by individual study)

The impact I expect the work to have on my teaching

The form I expect my presentation to take (e.g. a seminar; a web page; a poster presentation)

For this I have chosen to present my findings by way of this blog.

Sometimes it takes a major change in life to help you to put things into perspective

We all know how mundane life can get and sometimes you just can’t see the wood for the trees. Some people might see moving to Spain or another country as running away, I'd prefer to look upon it as a second chance not to have to do the things that you wouldn't want to do, or unable to do in your own familiar environment. By moving to Spain or wherever, one is in essence born again and able to try new things.

Perhaps you are after a lifestyle change. Selling up in the UK and moving to Spain might enable you to downsize and work to live rather than live to work. How often people are caught in the financial trappings of mortgages, credit cards, car loans etc. Of course these things exist wherever you live but, If you are after a simple lifestyle which you can control more easily then Spain is perfect for you especially if you opt to work for yourself.

Everyone will have their own individual objectives but Spain really does offer the opportunity to break away from the monotony and it needn’t be forever. It could be that you choose to stay for a few years and then finally return with a different, fresh outlook on life. On the other hand, one might love it so much that they decide to stay forever.

Won't be long now!

Can almost smell the freshly baked bread from the bakers at the end of our street. Don't seem to have enough of these tranquil moments during term time, but they sure keep me going.

Hope to get plenty of walking in the mountains whilst away to inspire creative thoughts to add to this blog, its a little sparse at the moment. A little extra virgen to assist with the flow may stimulate. Oh, and a drop or too of the local grape, hic!

In Europe we thought of wine as something as healthy and normal as food and also a great giver of happiness and well being and delight. Drinking wine was not a snobbism nor a sign of sophistication nor a cult; it was as natural as eating and to me as necessary. You may guess who said that?

It is always a work in progress and hence will always continue to grow. Most of the content may refer to what I am passionate about although, this in no way should be construed as patronising. If anyone has anything of interest to add, email me and I shall endeavour to oblige. Please bookmark and keep visiting!
Oh, and in the words of Mr H - Always do sober what you said you'd do drunk. That will teach you to keep your mouth shut.
